Jake - Three Months
- He is smiling and cooing SO much, especially first thing in the morning. He's always so happy to see me peep over the side of his crib to pick him up. He's usually been laying there talking to himself for a few minutes by this time, happy as a lark. When he talks, he is so intent. He really thinks he's saying something that we understand! He loves the way his voice sounds and he loves figuring out that the noises are coming from him.
- He rolled over (tummy to back) one day before 3 months.
- He weighed 15lbs 14oz at the doctor on the 14th, so it's safe to say that he's 16 + lbs now.
- Since he's been on Zantac for his reflux, he is so much happier. He really only cries when he's hungry, tired, or uncomfortable which is wonderful because I can remedy all of these things!!
- He does not like being woken up. He needs to get up on his own, after getting the sleep he needs. If not, he is very cranky.
- He gets 6 - 7oz every 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours. Not sure how much he gets when he nurses, but his demand time hasn't increased, so I'm thinking it's about the same. He nurses about twice a day and is fed breast milk with a bottle for the other feedings. (during the middle of the night, he gets less oz if bottle and less time nursing - trying to wean him down to zero food in the night). Can't wait for him to start sleeping through the night all the time. He's done it twice, so far.
- He's a great napper. he sleeps for about 2 hours twice a day (sometimes longer) and for about an hour the other naps. He's usually ready for a nap at some point between each feeding, still.
- He goes to bed between 7 and 8 each night (sometimes gets a dream feed around 10:30 depending upon how many ounces he's already had that day) and gets up once to eat between 1 and 4 then wakes for good between 6 and 7:30.
- At this point, he is pretty predictable. I know that, after he eats, we have a good window of time when he'll be happy and content before he's ready for a nap. Then the cycle starts again. This really helps out with planning outings, etc... He doesn't necessarily eat and nap at the same exact times every day, but it's pretty close. (yes, i realize his predictability is subject to change at any time as we approach teething, new milestones, etc...)
- Up until Tuesday, when he started rolling over, he was swaddled for bed and naps. Now that he can roll over, this could be dangerous if swaddled, so he'll no longer be swaddled arms in. I'm going to start doing it from his under arms down and see how that goees, for now. Eventually, I'm sure he'll be free willy head to toe, but I think he still needs a bit of snugness.
- He is totally out of 3 month clothes and on to 6 and 9 months. Some of the 6 month clothes are even too small. We thought we had so many clothes, but it turns out not so much because he grew out of a lot of them before he could even wear them!
- He's in size 2 diapers
- He loves bath time. We're still bathing him in his tub which we put in the kitchen sink.
- His favorite thing right now is to stare at a ceiling fan. They get the biggest tongue out smiles! He thinks they are so funny. If he's fussing, I'll point his little head up to a fan and he'll usually stop. If he's deep in a crying jag and sees the ceiling fan, he will smile and cry at the same time which is hilarious.
- He still loves the big window above the couch in the den. Stares at it all the time. One would think it's because of the light, but he loves it just as much when it's dark outside and you can't see a thing through it. I'm starting to think there's a little angel up there making him smile.
- Another favorite is the projector which is part of his noise maker. It projects images on the ceiling. His favorite is the disc that makes stars, moons, sheep, and cows go round and round. He gets so excited about them sometimes that he can't even concentrate on drinking his milk during the middle of the night. It's adorable.
- He has been very snuggly lately which is so sweet. John and I both just love it. He loves to be held, but he is as content as can be playing by himself too most of the time.
- With the exception of a few "regular" days, if you will, Jake is strictly a weekend pooper. He usually only poops every 4 or 5 days and usually this falls on the weekends. Beats me.
- His poops aren't too smelly, thanks to being breastfed (except for 1 formula feeding during the night sometimes), but, let me tell you, his gas will clear a room. It is a wonder.
- He has "found" his hands and LOVES sucking his thumb. It's amazing how much this soothes him. Sometimes he loses it and if I "give it back to him" he quiets instantly.
- He loves sucking on his chubby little knuckles, too, and does so vigourously! It makes the loudest noise and it's adorable.
- He also likes the way his tongue feels. He has just discovered it and he loves to stick it out, suck on it, etc...
- His eyes are still blue and his hair is still as red/auburn and as full as it was the day he was born.
- He does not love the bumbo right now, but I think that will come when he has a little better head control. The head control is pretty impressive now, though.
- I'm loving his new awareness and watching him soak in his surroundings every day.

Happy 3 months, Jake Jake! You make me so very happy! I love you!
