Today was my 31 week check up. All looked great; blood pressure, weight, Jake's heart rate (145bpm), etc...
From 24 weeks on, doctors measure your fundal height, a measurement from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus (which they can feel from the outside). The measurement, in centimeters, should be equal to (or close to) how many weeks pregnant you are. So, today the expected measurement would have been around 31 centimeters since I'm 31 weeks pregnant. Well, I measured at 35 centimeters. (size of the mother, etc... has no bearing on this measurement, it is strictly the uterus) A full 4 weeks ahead. This does not affect the timing of delivery (not yet anyway) or the due date, it just means we have a big boy. They ordered another ultrasound to be done at my next appointment July 19 to see just how big we're talkin'.
So thankful for a big, healthy boy. I just hope he doesn't get too, too big. If he starts reaching the 90th percentile, then she said we'll start talking c-section, but we're not there yet. More dialogue about the birth plan over the next several appointments.
