our birthday weekend

We decided not to do a birthday party for Jake this year.  He is still too young to know and we have the rest of his childhood to do parties and all that.  We had planned for weeks to go down to Charleston this weekend to be with the Earnst clan and celebrate with them, but midnight of Jake's birthday, he woke up vomiting and did it 3 more times throughout the night.  Every time he woke up, he was glad to be awake and didn't act sick at all and he didn't have a fever.  He did have a fever for a few days earlier in the week, so maybe the upset stomach was the tail end of that (?).  We couldn't risk getting anyone else sick, so we postponed the trip and spent the weekend at home.  Jake felt great on his birthday, just a little tired from little sleep the night before.  I took him for a walk around the neighborhood on his new tricycle (he calls is his bike) and he was so excited!  Several times on our walk, he would suddenly shout, "yay!" or "weeee!".  So sweet.  We played at the park and he took an extra nap.  A good day.  He's had diarrhea today, but didn't feel bad.
We went to breakfast this morning, my favorite meal to eat out, and then I went shopping BY MYSELF, which was so nice.  We spent the rest of the afternoon being entertained by our TWO year old!  I'd call it a great birthday with my boys.

And next weekend we get to celebrate with Nana, Papa, Kiki, and Poppy!
