We went to Lake Lure again last weekend and, this time, invited our friends, the Woods, to join us. Their son, Caleb, is Jake's best buddy at preschool and will be attending Rosewood for Kindergarten, as well. Their youngest, Luke, is two months older than Hamp, so going with a family with children the same age as ours was a lot of fun!
We decided not to tell Jake about the trip until we were on our way. We wanted him to be surprised that we were going to the Lake Lure (which he LOVES) AND that we were spending the weekend with Caleb's family.
We told him we were going to school and he thought we were taking a (really, really) long way to school until well into North Carolina, when we finally decided to hint by pointing out the mountains in the distance. We met the Woods at Sierra Nevada for lunch and that's where Caleb and Jake learned about the plan to spend the weekend together. They were shocked and it took them a little while to understand that we didn't just run into each other there. Very sweet.
Sierra Nevada was a lot of fun and then we headed to Lake Lure. The house we rented was perfect for all of us and we had the best weekend, even though the weather wasn't great for a big chunk of the time. We still fit in some hiking and swimming and the boys all had a blast (so did the adults)!
