He is the happiest boy and is into EVERYTHING. He is daring and scared of nothing. He can climb up and down any stair case (including the really steep one up to the tree house) by himself (I still walk behind him). He is not afraid or timid about trying new things at the park. He isn't worried about any of it, very unlike his oh, so cautious older brother (who freaks out when Hamp is doing something "dangerous"). If he falls, he is unphased and gets right back up.
I don't know if Hamp is more daring because I am more laid back with him when it comes to things like that or if it's just his nature. Probably both. He has had more scrapes and bruises in his 18 months than Jake has had in 5 years. Again, partly because of his personality and partly because I give him more room to roam.
He LOVES Jake and usually wants to be right where he is. Unfortunately, though, Jake has been on the brunt end of Hamp's hitting and biting (more like putting his teeth on you, doesn't really bite down) which have appeared lately. Jake went through it too. I hope it's a short phase.
He eats well, liking all meats and fruits, but is taking a stance against vegetables at the moment. It'll work itself out, eventually. Jake is still on that hiatus and is healthy as a horse.
The biggest change since the last update would be his move into Jake's room. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that they share a room and they do, too! We have a set of matching twin beds from Jean that will be so cute when Hamp moves out of his crib (hopefully a long time from now). And now we have the middle room as a play room, which is so great.
He has formed an attachment to Puppy, a sweet and very soft stuffed dog. He also prefers to carry a muslin blanket around whilst toting Puppy. Sometimes both items are required to join him in/on his high chair.
He is talking more and more and is saying new "words" every day. Most common:
bye!
hey!
Mama!
Dada!
Mama! (he also calls Jake this. I feel sure this is because of the sheer volume of times Jake says "Mama" daily.)
Nah! (no. this one is used quite frequently)
Dih doe (thank you)
Pie Pie Dih (a request to sing Itsy Bitsy spider while doing the hand motion in your face)
Row Row Row (a similar request to sing Row Row Row your boat. He loves to sing along and sings the Row Row Row part with the saddest sound and the saddest look in his eyes. sounds and looks like an old hound dog. maybe he's singing the blues.)
Yie Yie Ya (Old McDonald Song)
Moooo (cow sound)
Ruh Ruh (dog sound)
Dee (one of his teachers)

Current attachments also include gallon milk jugs. He has one or two in the playroom, which I have rinsed out, but it's never enough, as he runs into the pantry each time he hears it creak open and confiscates another jug of there is one there.
Speaking of doors. Hampton Sloan Estill will not stand for an open door. Will not stand for it. He closes them and then says "Dih Doe" (thank you) to himself. (and then looks at you until you also tell him "thank you"). He also likes to repeat "Dih Doe" randomly throughout the day to hear me say "you're welcome". Usually this is exchanged 3 or 4 times until he is satisfied and walks away.
He also likes to stomp fast (or tap dance) whenever he gets excited about something.
When at home, he still takes two naps about 75% of the time, but at school they take just one in the afternoon.
On a typical day he wakes up between 6:45 and 7 (earlier now that I have to wake them up in order to leave the house by 7:15 to get Jake to school on time.). He has milk with his breakfast (usually a waffle or toast with a banana or some other fruit). He has a snack between breakfast and lunch, which is around 11:30, and then goes down for a nap around 12:30. He usually sleeps at least 2 hours. Snack when he wakes up and milk with supper around 5:30. Water all day and milk with breakfast and supper. Bed no later than 6:30.
His size 6 shoes are awfully snug and only one pair currently fits, so size 7 it is.
He is in 2T clothes. I am looking forward to his 18mo appointment to get his stats.
He keeps us laughing and shaking our heads.

Hamp has a look in his eye that will just kill you. He is so intense and sweet at the same time. Don't get me wrong, he is laid back and happy, but there is something behind those big brown eyes that tells me to hang on tight!
