I read an article (pasted at the bottom of this post) which sums up my exact thoughts on Rubio.  I don't know who Dennis Prager is, so I don't know whether or not I agree with him on everything, but this?  100%.

The bottom line is, Marco Rubio is the only one who can compassionately and intelligently explain and convince Americans that conservative fiscal principles are good for everyone.  As he's said, he loves all Americans, even the ones who don't love him back.  He has been poor.  He is a minority and has lived through, but refused to be defined by discrimination.  He knows that, in America, you can make your own destiny and create your own opportunities, so he did.

He is smart enough to know that politicizing social issues such as abortion rights is off base, explaining that, though he is personally against all abortions, he will pass legislation that would save lives even if they fall short of his total belief.  He knows that working with others is the only way forward on the road to getting illegal immigration under control.  If people would have taken the time to listen to his explanation of the gang of 8 bill, they would see how much sense it made for him to start there.

These are not a cop-outs or sales to the devil.  It's smart and realistic to compromise in the right ways and these are just two example of how someone with high intelligence and the right communication skills can get things moving in the right direction.  Self righteousness and selfish desires for power get us nowhere.  He gets it.  Why doesn't America?

He has an understanding of the state of the world and foreign policy which is unmatched.  He has clearly worked very hard to learn and understand all that he does.

Conservative talk show host Dennis Prager offered this thought to his audience, “When you think back on when times were good, did you realize the times were good at the time?” Usually, no. And I think pundits and voters are all waking up to the fact that one of the best, most electable conservative candidates in years is slipping out of their nit-picking fingers.

Marco Rubio has the total package. Is he perfect? Hardly, and he’ll be the first to admit it. The young senator knows where his strength comes from and he humbly seeks it. But I believe demanding the perfect conservative is an elusive dream. Was Reagan welcomed as a perfect conservative? Was Lincoln? No. And we are not a nation, nor will we ever be a nation that is entirely conservative. Both of these men understood that and knew they must influence and sometimes compromise a little. Marco understands that. Taking a bold stance, I believe Mr. Rubio has an edge on both these great men. From early on in his political life, he sees the world, the culture in that all-important biblically based paradigm. It took both Reagan and Lincoln years to come close to the spiritual and biblical depth that Marco has. The freshman senator didn’t rest there. He worked on developing his God-given gifts as well. He has used his intelligence to understand details about the issues facing our military and foreign relations as well as economic and sociological needs at home. And he has used them to find solutions, not just be a conservative watchdog and policeman.

Michael Reagan compared Rubio to his father. He has the ability to hear other opinions, and work with opponents. People genuinely like him and see the goodness that radiates from a sincere heart and a mind based in truth and logic. And, he is a bold Pauline figure for our generation – unashamed to share the Gospel. His other inspiring orations woo the younger generation into politics and into understanding conservative principles. And he gives hope to mature conservatives, that we can find our way back to smaller government, free enterprise, and a more righteous society.

It will take time. Our nation has been bought by entitlements and subsidies for so many years, that many neither hear, want, nor understand the importance of personal freedom and self-reliance. They will have to be weaned but that can only happen when someone can explain the separation in a winning way – a person who loves all Americans and the greatness of this country, a man who can inspire citizens to become a better version of themselves; an even greater generation than ever before. A man … like Marco Rubio.

I pray that when I look back, when my children remember, we will marvel at these days and say; “Those were the best of times, the years when Marco Rubio was President of the United States.” I will be able to smile wistfully and say, “Yes, they were. And I knew it then, too.”
