Jake is at the most fun age for Christmas. He has been in the spirit for weeks now and counting down has been fun. He couldn't stop himself from singing Christmas Carols on repeat all day, every day.
Christmas Eve day Jake was running about a 101 fever and wasn't feeling himself. He had fun that day and when Kiki and Poppy came for Christmas Eve dinner, but he just wasn't himself all day and night. He woke up feeling pretty bad Christmas morning (late for him around 6:30/7) and was hot. He was excited about his gifts, but, again, just wasn't himself.
Santa gave Jake a Rescue Bots Station that he's been dying to have, a big remote control crane, a tee ball set and some glider planes. He loved it all, but the crane was the surprise hit. He LOVES it and keeps saying how Santa knew exactly what he needed.
The big gift from us this year was a tree house that John built. Because of Jake's cautious nature and his tendency to need to warm up to things, we knew that his initial reaction to this surprise might not be super enthusiastic, but he was as excited as he could have been considering how bad he felt. He is loving it more and more each day as it sinks in that it really is his, and not John's tool shed as he was told for so many weeks while John was building it.
Hamp didn't have a clue what was going on, but was happy to be here, as usual. He was happy to receive some new yogurt melts, wipes, and some new toys to chew on. It was a great first Christmas for our little man.
We had a good morning just the 4 of us at home playing with new toys and eating breakfast.
Then we headed to the farm for presents and lunch. Again, Jake had a good time, but was definitely not himself. He spiked a fever of 103.5 while we were there. Poor, poor thing. On Christmas, of all days. (it turned out to be a virus that passed in a few days). It was a great afternoon with Kiki and Poppy with great food and time spent together.
We were also so glad that Nana and Papa stopped by the week before to spend some time with us and deliver presents.
And the Monday before Christmas, the boys and I went down to spend a day and night with the Earnsts and had a blast. I would give my left leg for us to be able to spend more time with them, but I think Shelby and I do a good job of making it work as often as we can, given the 1.5 hour distance.
We are so fortunate to have such wonderful families who love us so well.
