telling Jake

Since the 12 week ultrasound went well and everything looks good, we decided to go ahead and tell Jake. We told him during dinner that mommy has a baby growing in her belly and that he would become a big brother to a new baby in the Spring. He didn't have a whole lot to say, understandably. It is a lot to take in and hard to comprehend for a 3 year old. He looked at the ultrasound pictures and then asked if he could see the baby. We explained that we can't see it until it's grown big and strong enough to be born. We dropped it and followed his lead because we didn't want to overwhelm him. Later on, before bed, he told me that he also has a baby growing in his belly and that I should name mine Joseph. I think he will grasp it a little more when my belly grows bigger, but I don't think he's truly going to understand until the baby's here.
